Driving Time. Why Waste It?

The average person spends four years of their lives driving their cars, which is enough time to earn a university degree in most countries.

At Shamir, we figured that was time you could endure, or choose to enjoy. We developed Shamir Driver Intelligence™ lenses to help drivers feel happier about the time they spend behind the wheel by making driving more engaging, more accurate, safer and more enjoyable.

Whether it’s a few minutes a day behind the wheel, popping to the shops or school, or several hours of long-haul or commuter action, driving is what you make of it, insists Shamir’s Director of Sales, Support and Training, Shahar Ben-Ari.
“Four years on the road and what you doing? Driving should not be going from Point A to Point B. How often do you get to work and think ‘What happened between home and work?’,” he said.
“Usually, we see things when we drive, and in a thought it ends. We don’t even experience the drive. That’s a shame, when it can be exciting, it can be about freedom, and it can be fun.”

Besides the normal thoughts from a busy day, there are other distractions getting in the way of people enjoying their time behind the wheel of their cars, and a surprising number of them come back to problems with vision.
“Our vision in Shamir is to provide and improve visual performance,” Ben Ari said.
“We want to deliver a perfect solution for each driver: the passionate, the professional and the lovers of driving.
“And even with all this fun, driving is a challenging task and the goal is to drive as safely as possible and to concentrate on the information we need and ignore the distractions,” Ben Ari said.
That’s why, even after Shamir uncovered the need for a specialist driving lens kit, our researchers dived in to examining which areas of driving vision needed the most attention, and why.
And no lens in history has been based off as many data points of research as Driver Intelligence™ lenses.

“We started with research to understand what consumers needed. Without that, we wouldn’t have known what to prioritise,” Ben Ari confirmed.
“Our consumer research found that one in three drivers reported they experienced trouble adjusting their head gaze. They don’t always know where to look.
“Twenty percent of drivers say they experience limited far-distance vision while they are driving, and three quarters have difficulty with glare at night,” he said.
Shamir Driver Intelligence™ lenses address all of this, and much, much more, to make driving fun again, no matter the conditions.
