Racing to the finish line with Shamir Driver Intelligence™

July 9, 2024

Being at the forefront of corrective lens technology means that Shamir takes on the toughest challenges. That’s why Shamir committed to ongoing support for
Sébastien Bourdais, one of the most decorated French drivers in history. In addition to four consecutive ChampCar World Series titles, his impressive resume includes outright wins in the Spa 24 Hour race, Sebring 12 Hour race, and two second places in the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

Uniquely in motorsport’s top tier, Bourdais has used corrective lenses for his entire career and used Shamir lens technology before becoming an ambassador for the brand at the beginning of the 2023 racing season.

“I wore Shamir lenses even before I became an ambassador, and they’ve provided me with the latest evolution of Driver Intelligence™ lenses to wear this year,” Bourdais said.

“It’s the first time that someone has developed an eyewear product that is tailored for driving cars. It’s taking something that used to be negative and turning it into a positive and an improvement of vision. Obviously, me needing glasses and being a professional race car driver, I don’t think it could be a better fit,” he noted.

The 2024 endurance racing programs in the North American IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship and the World Endurance Championship are all part of a normal “day’s work” for Bourdais. For these tough racing conditions, he races with both the Shamir Driver Intelligence Sun and Moon lenses — Sun lenses for bright conditions and Moon lenses for dark or compromised light conditions.

While he is still chasing his first outright win at the French classic, he started the year strongly, winning in Long Beach to sit second in the US IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship race after five rounds.

“I really want to thank Shamir for all the hard work they have done, which makes me really enjoy the benefits of Driver Intelligence™. The results this year with Cadillac speak for themselves,” Bourdais said.

“We are delighted to continue our relationship with Sébastien, and not just because he’s the most high-profile racer to wear corrective lenses,” commented Shamir President, Yagen Moshe.

“He found us before we found him. He’s with us because he believes in our technology, and we plan for him to become more involved in our lens development this year,” he said.

“There is no more difficult challenge for a lens developer than the Le Mans 24 Hour, with headlights many times brighter than on road cars, dirty windscreens, the rising and setting sun, and closing speeds that are just frightening to normal drivers,” noted Yagen Moshe.

“We look forward to what we know we can achieve together with Sébastien this year, and we wish him success in the championships he’s competing in,” he concluded.
