Shamir and BWT Alpine F1® team partnership
Most of the companies involved in Formula One are there as sponsors, with their names all over racing cars for television cameras to broadcast to the world.
Shamir Optical supports BWT Alpine F1® team in a different way. We provide our eye-performance expertise as a Technology Partner.
For Shamir, we got to test BWT Alpine F1® Team’s personnel and professional Alpine racers to add to the data points used in the development of Shamir Driver Intelligence™ lenses.
For the BWT Alpine F1® Team, we also developed unique technologies to improve their performance.
We can’t talk about all of them, but Shamir Chief Technology Officer Zohar Katzman explained three BWT Alpine F1® Team-specific developments:
- The team uses a state-of-the-art Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system to visualize airflow in its wind tunnel, and Shamir developed special lenses and films to protect the eyes of aerodynamicists from from the system’s lasers.
- We developed safety glasses with integrated corrective lenses for the team’s pit crews to wear to help them change four tyres in two seconds, with no mistakes.
- We came up with a system to test the eyes of team personnel and equip them with new lenses (to better process information and data to make fast decisions during race sessions), for a range of different roles.
From Shamir’s side, besides the enjoyable challenge of creating new technologies, the Alpine F1® Team also lead us to better understand what pro drivers experience through their eyes, which helped us to find eye-technology solutions for passionate and everyday drivers.
