The Future of Eyecare is Here with AI Lenses
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing every aspect of our lives
AI makes it possible for machines to analyze massive amounts of data, recognize patterns, learn and improve from experience, and perform human-like tasks. Today, it’s used in almost every industry, from health care, retail, banking, manufacturing, and more. We encounter it in almost everything we do. AI algorithms are working in the background every time we book a trip online, use Netflix or Siri, get a product recommendation on Amazon, open Facebook, or carry out a Google search. We’re moving closer to closer to a future in which AI plays a key role in cutting-edge technologies such as self-driving cars, personalized medicine as well as many standard labor-intensive financial processes, to name but a few.
Step into the future as Shamir brings AI and big data to the optics market!
Some years ago, Shamir realized the huge potential of embracing big data and AI to enhance the customer experience. Since we believe that the optics and eyecare industry has everything to gain from leveraging AI, we’ve adopted AI technologies elements to optimize our design, manufacture, operational, marketing, and sales processes.
We used Big data analysis to conduct extensive research in which we analyzed the visual behavior of presbyopes (people with deteriorating vision) between the ages of 40 and 80 so we could offer a range of progressive lenses that meet their diverse visual needs. Our goal was to replace the “one size fits all” model with a more intelligent model that takes the diverse lifestyles and visual needs of presbyopes into account.
Using a large database with data from 5 million progressive lens orders over the last few years, Shamir analyzed visual needs defined by the lifestyles and daily activities of presbyopes, including driving, reading, and smartphone use. This information was correlated with an analysis of different visual zones and Visual Age™, the eye’s physiological age, which generally corresponds with patients’ chronological age.
Moving from research to intelligent lenses
Our research showed that younger presbyopes need good solutions for digital reading and support for dynamic vision; moderate presbyopes have more balanced needs; and advanced presbyopes need good solutions for far and near vision. AI elements were also used in computerized tools to mimic human intelligence and implemented in Shamir’s advanced Eye-Point Technology AI™, Continuous Design Technology™, and Visual AI Engine™. This integrated approach led to the development of Shamir Autograph Intelligence™, which includes twelve different design concepts providing optimal vision solutions for young, moderate, and advanced presbyopes.
Whether you are 45 or 65, you can now receive the best design optimally suited to your visual needs and visual age.
