Super strong, super thin and super light!

Global innovators of lens technologies, Shamir Optical, has won a SILMO D’or Award in Paris for its Metaform™ Lens innovation. Shamir Metaform™ won the ‘Vision’ Grand Prix at the SILMO Paris Optical Fair in late September – just one of 12 winners.

A disruptive and eco-responsible manufacturing technology developed by Shamir, Metaform™ enables high minus prescription lenses to be thinner and lighter than regular lenses with identical indexes. The result is no-compromise lenses that are super-strong, aesthetically advanced, and more comfortable to wear.

The SILMO d’Or are billed as the “ultimate recognition of ingenuity and inventiveness” in the optical and eyewear market. They began in 1994 when the SILMO fair organizers created trophies to award the excellence, creation and innovation of manufacturers and brands from all around the world.

Shamir’s Metaform™ lenses won the award by being up to 18 times stronger than the FDA requirement and up to 40% thinner than regular minus lenses. The product is made by rapidly fusing the multi-feature Shamir Preform – a super-resistant optical film used in automobiles, aviation, and aerospace – with any lens, through an 80% more energy efficient process minimizing use of water, power, and chemicals.

Shamir Optical launched Metaform™ in August 2021. The Preform element of Metaform™ replaces the need for separate lens coatings and removes 98% of the time involved in coating, while maintaining quality, meaning faster delivery of the lens to the customer.
